Born in 1985, Lawrence has fruitful performing experience, and played cello for more than 13 years. After three years playing cello on his own which was inspired by school teacher Chen, he started to have cello classes with Chun Yuan Lee in Hsinchu (Taiwan). Later, he studied cello performance with Professor Frank Bernede in Taipei (Taiwan). He is currently an Electrical & Computer Engineering PhD student in Cornell University. Lawrence had played Haydn Cello Concerto C Major with National Tsin-Hua University String Orchestra (Taiwan) in 2006, and gave solo performances including Brahms Sonata No.1, and Rondo by Dvorak in public. He had also awarded first prize of student music competition in cello performance in Taiwan. As a Cello leader in Ministry National Defense Symphony Orchestra (Taiwan) in 2009, he played the solo parts in Shostakovich String Quartet No. 8. Lawrence was interviewed by Open Mic on New Tan Dynasty Television, where he shared experiences and played three pieces of Bach's music. He was also a very former member of the Music First Cello Ensemble that recently held a concert in National Music Hall in Taiwan. He did not give up music as he choose his career as a scientist or Engineer, and still stays on stage to share his music in public. Lawrence have experienced through practicing on his own during early years of playing, so he is good at teaching adults, who struggles to overcome the barriers either mentally or physically. He also had several children playing under his supervision. |
