Eugen Prochác (born in 1962) got his elementary music education with Professor Juraj Fazeka at the Conservatoire in Bratislava. He went on with the studies at the Academy of Music and Drama with Professor Josef Chuchro and later on he studied with personalities like Daniil Shafran, Erling Blondal Bengtsson, Mikhail Khomitzer and Angelica May. During his studies he won the competition of Slovak Conservatoires twice. He is an absolute winner of the Interpretation Competition of Slovakia (1983) and the winner of an international competition Premio Valentino Bucchi (1990) in Rome. As a soloist he gave performances with many leading orchestras l and took part in number of important festivals..He is a holder of Slovak Music Criticism Award. His tours brought him to lot of European music centres, but also to Canada, Japan, Thailand, Argentina, United Arab Emirates, and many other countries. Last year he made two Asian tours, playing recitals, concerts with orchestras and doing master classes in Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. In the season 2006/2007 are planned solo performances in Egypt, Russia, France, Belgium, Madeira...
He is also active as a teacher. In the period of 1993-1997 he taught at Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra in Lisbon and Escola Profissional in Paredes and was also a solo cellist of Orquestra do Norte. At present he has been teaching at the Academy of Music and Drama in Bratislava. He gave master classes in Portuguese city of and Porto and Paredes. He regularly records for various recording companies in Slovakia and abroad as HF, OPUS, Slovart, HOMER, Numérica, Gallo and others. Highly acclaimed was a CD called On Fire, released by Radio Bratislava in 2001, which brings works by Piazzolla, Heath, de Falla, Milhaud and Popper. His next CD - Music for Cello and Harp for DISKANT, is featuring virtuoso sonatas and pieces by Locatelli, Vivaldi, Goens, Ravel, Tournier, Granados...
Recently is finishng two CDs Great Romantic Cello Concertos together with Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra with the interpretation of Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saens, Schumann and Paganini. Other CD, which will feature the complete cello output of extraordinary Slovak composer Tadeá Salva will be realised by NAXOS.
His last CD for DISKANT label Visions Slovak Music for Cello and Accordion (together with Rajmund Kákoni ), with the the pieces written by outstanding Slovak composers especially for that ensemble, went out on January.
Eugen Prochác has shown his talents as an organizer and manager in establishing the international Festival of the Nice Music in city of Banská tiavnica - UNESCO city, Slovak republic in 2000. He is an artistic director of the festival . In 2001 he was artistic advisor and soloist at first Al Ain Music Festival in United Arab Emirates as well as in Mozart Istanbul Festival this year. |
