Dami was born in Seoul, South Korea and raised in Maryland from the age of 5. She studied cello performance with Ms. Bai Chi Chen, Dr. Franklin Cox, Jr., and Ms. Gita Ladd, as well as cello pedagogy with Dr. Benjamin Myers. Having earned a B.A. in Cello Performance with an emphasis in Musicology, Dami uses her personal experiences and understanding of music theory to develop lesson plans tailored to each student’s learning style and ability. She currently teaches cello at her private studios in Glenelg and Severn and at her Music & Arts studios in Arundel Mills and Crofton.
Fascinated by the many different genres of music and their representative cultures, Dami traveled to South Korea to study the music of her heritage, earning a Masters degree in Korean Musicology from Seoul National University. Upon her return home, she joined the Korean Performing Arts Academy of America where she teaches and performs Traditional Korean drums.
When she’s not performing with the Columbia Orchestra or KPAAA drum troupe, she can be found playing for various events and shows, recording for various artists, or experimenting different sounds on her green electric cello.
